Why We Give

At Mamapina, every purchase supports our mission to provide nutritious meals to moms and babies in the Philippines.

Shockingly, 1 in 5 Filipinos struggle with food insecurity, and 18 to 20 percent live in poverty. Additionally, a staggering 84% of pregnant women in the Philippines lack adequate food to meet their energy needs. By choosing our products, you're not just making a purchase – you're making a powerful difference.

Let's empower Filipino Americans, Filipinos, and caring allies to unite as we uplift, nourish, and bring hope to those in need, transforming lives in the Philippines and everywhere.

How We Give

Mamapina coordinates with hospitals and birthing centers in various regions of the Philippines. Our principal partners are the midwives and nurses who care for pregnant and nursing mothers as well as their babies on a daily basis. Working directly with such partners allows your contribution to go farther. These trusted community partners utilize every resource in a responsible way and collaborate in a spirit of giving and accountability.

Purchasing the contents of the Munggo for Mamas packages at the local level not only reduces costs but also supports local businesses while fostering future collaborations. We also distribute donated baby clothes for Munggo for Mamas events at partnering health facilities. This has proven to be an effective way of reaching the greatest number of mothers possible. In two years, we provided 5,764 meals and, with the support of the Filipino community, we know we can do much more.

What We Give

Every Munggo for Mamas pack includes one kilogram of rice, one quarter kilogram of munggo (mung beans) and donated newborn baby clothes, all wrapped in a reusable baby diaper.

Why did we choose to donate mung beans and rice?

Mung beans, or munggo, is high in folate, iron, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. When paired with rice, it creates a complete protein and provides more protein than many other types of beans. This little powerhouse is exactly what pregnant women need during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Also, munggo is a familiar bean in the Philippines and is easy to combine with commonly available ingredients. One common addition to a mung bean stew is moringa leaves, which provide prolactin and thereby increase breastmilk volume. It’s an adaptable and nutritious meal for new moms.
